Letter to the Editor: American Fork Canyon Invaded by Snowbird?

By Wendy Visser Lojik
Dear Managing Editor
My name is Jon Stansfield and I am the District Ranger on the Pleasant Grove Ranger District of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. I am the Line Officer responsible for management of the American Fork Canyon/Alpine Loop area.
I appreciate the information published in the May 6, 2015 edition of the, The Crossroads Journal, regarding projects involving the Forest Service. I am providing clarification on some of the information for these projects.

Snowbird's proposal to construct a mount for a howitzer to be used in avalanche control and to modify the Path to Paradise ski way are projects that are separate from the American Fork Canyon Vision process. The Forest Service is considering authorization of these projects and has sought public comment via a scoping notice post-dated April 17, 2015, and a  request for comments  in The Salt Lake Tribune on April 22, 2015. The comment period is open until May 15, 2015 and below is the information on how to provide comments:

Written, facsimile, hand-delivered, oral, and electronic comments must be received by May 15, 2015. Written comments must be submitted to: Pleasant Grove District Ranger, 390 North 100 East, Pleasant Grove, UT 84062. The fax number is (801)785-6932. The office business hours for submitting hand-delivered comments are: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Oral comments must be provided in person at the address above during normal business hours, via telephone at (801) 733-2660, or at an official agency function (i.e. public meeting) that is designed to elicit public comments. Electronic comments must be submitted in rich text format (.rtf) or Word (.doc or .docx) or .pdf to comments-intermtn-wasatch-cache-saltlake@fs.fed.us.

Though the public is welcome to provide comments in any of the formats listed above, we do not have a public meeting scheduled on May 15, 2015.

In summary, the clarifications are:
Projects are separate from American Fork Vision
Comment Period is still open for the projects
There will be no public meeting on May 15, 2015

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks,
Jon M. Stansfield
